Ques: When can I apply for AME B1.4 course?

The AME B1.4 Stream is a specialized pathway under the broader Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (AME) B1.1 Stream / AME programme. While B1.1 deals with turbine-engine (jet) aircraft maintenance, B1.4 focuses on piston engine helicopters training you to inspect maintain and certify piston engine rotorcraft for airworthiness.

Eligibility to apply

You can apply for AME B1.4 when you meet standard AME eligibility requirements:

  • You have completed 12th grade with Physics Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) from a recognised board.

  • Alternatively, you hold a 3-year engineering diploma (any stream) from a recognised institution.

  • Your age is generally between 16 and 28 years at the time of admission.

  • You must also be medically fit no colour blindness or disqualifying physical disability.

So basically, as soon as you finish 12th (PCM) or have a diploma and meet age/medical fitness, you are eligible to apply for B1.4.

When to apply Entrance exam & admission window

In many institutes in India, admission to AME courses (including B1.4) is through a common entrance exam such as AME CET.

  • For example, AME CET 2026 registration opens from 1 September 2025.

  • The last date to submit the application (for that cycle) is 31 March 2026.

  • After that you would need to wait for the next admission cycle.

Hence, you should plan to apply as soon as you become eligible: ideally right after your 12th board results or upon diploma completion so you don't miss the AME CET registration window.

When you can apply for AME B1.4

You can apply for AME B1.4:

  • as soon as you pass 12th with PCM or you have a 3-year engineering diploma,

  • when you are medically fit and within the age limit,

  • and when a new admission cycle (through entrance exam like AME CET) is open for example starting September as per recent schedules.
