Cabin Crew Qualifications and Eligibility

Course admission and airline employment are separate decisions. Begin with your school qualification, then compare the conditions for the airline role you intend to pursue.

Educational Qualification After Class 12

• Pass Class 12 in any stream for the AME CET Cabin Crew course route. Arts, Commerce and Science students can consider this pathway. [3]
• Minimum marks depend on the course or employer. Air India lists 50% in Class 12 for its recruitment programme; this is not a national course-entry percentage. [4]

Keep your education certificates and identity documents organised, and identify any passport or work-authorisation requirements in your target vacancy. Overseas employment can involve additional experience and visa conditions. [11] [12]

How to Prepare After Class 10

Class 10 is a useful time to start planning. Use the next school years to build a foundation rather than rushing into an unsuitable course:

1. Continue to Class 12. Choose a stream that suits your interests while keeping the Cabin Crew pathway in mind. [3]
2. Practise spoken communication. Join an English-speaking group or give a short presentation during a weekly school activity.
3. Build teamwork and service skills. Help welcome visitors or organise a school event.
4. Compare training and recruitment routes. Match your preparation to the requirements of the course and airline you hope to join.

Cabin Crew Age, Height and Weight Requirements

For initial planning, the Indian airline examples below use fresher age bands of 18–27 or 18–28 years, while Emirates and Etihad require applicants to be at least 21 years old. Minimum height thresholds in this comparison range from 155–163 cm for women and 160–170 cm for men, depending on the airline. These are minimum thresholds, rather than maximum permitted heights. Weight is assessed in relation to height. The Indian airline examples publish BMI ranges of 18–22 or 18–23 for women and 18–25 for men, where male recruitment criteria are specified. Each airline’s exact requirements are shown below. [4] [13] [14]

These are airline recruitment examples. Course-admission requirements and the conditions of individual airline vacancies can differ. Emirates also requires Grade 12 education, at least one year of hospitality or customer-service experience, and eligibility for a UAE employment visa. [11]

Medical Fitness, Eyesight and Other Airline Requirements

In India, cabin-crew medical examinations cover physical and mental fitness, vision, colour perception and hearing. Medical fitness, uniform policies and swimming ability are different requirements; they should not be treated as one universal list of disqualifiers. [16]

For a personal medical concern, speak with an appropriately authorised aviation medical examiner or the airline’s medical team before committing to training costs. [16]

Cabin Crew for Men and Women

Men and women can become Cabin Crew. Air India confirms that it recruits both, with recruitment drives organised around its staffing needs. [4]

Your preparation should focus on the same professional responsibilities: safety, clear communication, passenger care and teamwork. [1] Use the age and physical requirements above to understand the relevant employer examples, rather than looking for a completely different course for men.

Cabin Crew Skills Needed

• Clear communication: Explain an instruction in simple language and practise speaking at a steady pace.
• Listening and empathy: Let another person finish, identify the concern and respond politely.
• Teamwork: Share tasks, pass on information accurately and support others during a group activity.
• Calm problem-solving: Practise responding to an unhappy customer without arguing or making promises you cannot keep.
• Professional presentation: Develop punctuality, neat presentation and respectful body language.

For self-study, the 12-month period is the time available to complete 45–60 hours of learning. [1]

Airline Training After Selection

Selected candidates complete the airline’s own safety and service training. Emirates, for example, provides 7.5 weeks of training for new recruits. [11]

This training and its assessments are required even when a candidate already holds a preparatory course certificate. [12]

AME CET Scholarships

Eligible students can receive scholarships towards first-semester tuition fees through AME CET counselling. The scholarship amount depends on their rank and the published scholarship limits. [3]

How to Become Cabin Crew and Apply

Apply for a Suitable Training Course

Start by comparing the certificate, learning activities, eligibility and written fee schedule. Choose a course for the preparation it provides, rather than an impressive-sounding title or an unsupported placement promise.

AME CET means Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Common Entrance Test. It provides an examination and counselling route for participating-institution admissions, including Cabin Crew courses; it is not an airline hiring examination or the provider of every course listed. [3] [19]

For this route, complete the AME CET application form, appear for the examination and follow the applicable counselling and admission process. Course admission remains subject to the chosen programme’s requirements. [3] [19]

Apply for Airline Cabin Crew Vacancies

Airline applications are separate from course applications. A practical sequence is: official vacancy → application and assessments → required checks → airline training after selection. Specific stages are set by the employer. [11] [12] [16]

Prepare your documents, read the vacancy carefully and practise explaining your interest in the role with examples from school, volunteering or customer-facing work. Use the airline’s official recruitment channel or an agency it explicitly identifies.

Cabin Crew Career Opportunities, Salary and Growth

Starting Roles and Career Progression

The entry role is Cabin Crew or flight attendant. Later opportunities can include senior crew, supervisory or cabin-management responsibilities; the titles depend on the airline. British Airways, for example, describes crew, senior, supervisory and inflight-management roles. [20]

Experience can also support a move into training. Emirates describes progression to cabin supervisor and purser, as well as crew moving into trainer roles; promotions depend on performance. A purser leads the onboard team. [11]

Treat these as career-development possibilities, not job titles awarded on completion of a private course. For an overseas role, work-authorisation and other recruitment conditions still apply. [12]

Cabin Crew Salary Range and Benefits

Indicative cabin crew base pay in India is approximately ₹30,000–₹50,000 per month. This reported and modelled market estimate covers different experience levels. [10]

Individual offers can fall outside this indicative range. Flying pay and allowances can increase earnings, while deductions affect take-home pay. Compare the fixed salary, duty-related payments and benefits when assessing an offer. [10] [11]

What the Job Is Really Like

Depending on the airline and routes, your roster may include early starts, late finishes, same-day return flights or overnight stays away from home. [2] [12] [20] The work involves standing and walking for extended periods, assisting passengers and handling service equipment. [2] Some rosters also include standby duty—scheduled availability to report if called—so rest, punctuality and travel-to-base planning matter. [2] [21]

• What will I receive? Identify the exact certificate, issuing organisation, course hours and assessment requirements.

• Who will teach me? Ask about trainers’ relevant experience, individual feedback and support for improving English.
• What will I pay? Obtain written fees, inclusions, refund terms and the scope of placement assistance.
