The Private Pilot License (PPL) Course is a certification that lets you fly non-commercial aircraft in India for personal use, hobbies, and private journeys. You cannot fly commercially for pay with just a PPL, but it's a strong start toward any aviation career.
To apply for the PPL course, first meet the basic eligibility criteria. You should have passed the 10th standard, be physically fit, and be at least 17 years old. Some schools may accept 16 years for training, but you must be 17 for the license itself. You also need a valid Class II medical certificate from a DGCA-approved doctor.
Once qualified, you can join a flying school. A common method used in India is through the AME CET entrance exam. After clearing it, you may get admission into a good flying institute, sometimes with a scholarship.
PPL training generally lasts around 6 to 8 months, depending on your pace, weather, and aircraft availability. During this period, you will complete ground lessons and flight hours under instructor supervision. Most programs include both theoretical and practical flying training.
