Ques: When and how do I get admission to AME B1.2 course?

The AME B1.2 Stream is a specialization under the broader Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (AME) course that focuses on piston-engine aircraft usually light planes small commercial aircraft general aviation planes training aircraft, and private jets. As a B1.2-qualified engineer you learn to inspect maintain repair and certify mechanical and engine systems of pistonengine aircraft. That includes work on fuel systems propellers airframe components, hydraulic systems ignition and lubrication systems and overall airworthiness checks.

The course is approved by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) India's official aviation regulatory authority so the license you get is legitimate for working nationally or internationally.

Duration & Eligibility

  • The AME B1.2 course generally spans 2 to 3 years, covering around 2400 hours of combined theoretical and practical training.

  • To be eligible, you must have passed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM), or a 3-year engineering diploma (any stream) from a recognised institution. Minimum marks criteria (about 45%) apply.

  • Age should be between 16 and 28 years at time of admission. Medical fitness is also required: no color blindness or significant physical disability.

When

Admission to AME B1.2 is typically offered when the entrance exam schedule is announced for example the national level exam known as AME CET. As per the official source, registration for AME CET 2026 begins from 1st September 2025.

Many institutes open admissions after entrance results; so if you clear the exam and meet eligibility, counselling and seat allotment follow.

How

  1. Check Eligibility: Ensure you meet the educational and medical criteria (10+2 with PCM or diploma, age 16-28, medically fit).

  2. Apply for Entrance Exam: Register for AME CET via online/official portals when registration opens.

  3. Appear for Exam & Qualify: Take the exam and secure a rank meriting admission.

  4. Counselling & Seat Allotment: Based on your All India Rank (AIR), choose your preferred institution and stream (B1.2).

  5. Document Verification & Fee Payment: Submit required documents medical certificate and pay course fees to confirm admission.

  6. Start Course: Once admitted you begin the 2-3 years of training combining classroom theory and hands on practical work on piston engine aircraft.

Some colleges may also accept diploma holders directly if they meet criteria.
