Ques: Do I need strong maths and science knowledge for AME?

If you plan to pursue AME and become an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer having good knowledge of maths and science is very helpful. According to the official course page an AME works with complex aircraft systems from engines to electrical and mechanical parts to keep them safe and airworthy.

Here is why maths and science matter:

  • Understanding aircraft systems: To inspect maintain and repair planes you need to understand physics how forces motion pressure energy electricity and aerodynamics work. These help you comprehend how aircraft parts behave operate and fail.

  • Performing calculations: Many tasks in aircraft maintenance involve measurements conversions weightbalance calculations load distribution electrical parameters and more. For these basic to intermediate mathematics (algebra geometry arithmetic) is essential.

  • Eligibility reason: Most AME courses require that you have passed 10+2 (or equivalent) with Physics Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM), or a 3-year engineering diploma.

That said you don t need to be a maths genius or know the most advanced theories. A clear understanding of basic science and comfortable handling of math is enough. Many AME institutes focus on applied math and physics relevant for aircraft maintenance, not just theoretical depth.

If someone is willing to work hard practice regularly and stay disciplined they can manage even if maths and science were not their strongest subjects earlier. The practical training during the AME course reinforces the theory.
