The AME B1.2 Stream is a specialization under Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), focused on maintenance of piston engine aircraft typically light planes training aircraft private jets or small commercial aircraft. Over a period of 2-3 years (2400 hours training) students study theory modules (aerodynamics materials piston engine engines fuel systems propeller systems aircraft systems, maintenance practices safety & aviation regulations, etc.) and gain practical experience working on real piston engine aircraft in approved maintenance environments.
Upon successful completion of the AME B1.2 course (theory + practical training) and passing the required DGCA module examinations and experience requirements you become eligible for the DGCA-approved AME License in Category B1.2.
The B1.2 license is specifically for piston engine aeroplanes enabling you to inspect maintain repair, and certify piston-engine aircraft as airworthy.
With this license your signature or certification is required before a piston engine aircraft can be declared fit to fly.
With the B1.2 license you can work as a licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer specializing in piston-engine aircraft. Typical roles include:
Line Maintenance Engineer daily or regular maintenance of piston aircraft between flights.
Base Maintenance Engineer / Engine Technician (Piston) deeper repairs overhauls engine maintenance propeller servicing airframe/fuel/hydraulic systems maintenance.
Maintenance Planner Quality Assurance Inspector or Technical Support roles in flying clubs, MRO (Maintenance Repair and Overhaul) organisations small airlines private operators in India or abroad.
Because the license is DGCA approved it is recognized nationally and often internationally for general aviation / light-aircraft piston engine operations.
