The Master of Science in Agriculture (MSc Agriculture) generally takes two years to complete and is divided into four semesters. It allows students to study Agricultural Science in depth which includes crop production, soil science, agricultural business, biotechnology, and sustainable agriculture. Some universities also offer tracks in agronomy, horticulture, animal science, and agricultural economics which affect the structure of the program. In certain cases, the institutes offer an accelerated 1 year MSc option for Working professionals or a 3 year part time option for employed persons.
The course has coursework, research, and thesis components as the students are expected to master modern techniques and methods of agriculture in practice. Most universities include field studies, practice teaching, and laboratory work to ensure practical application of the concepts learned. The variation in length of the program is affected by the customs of the country, policies of the university and whether the student is attending on a regular basis, by distance learning or in an executive mode. Graduates take up roles specializing in agribusiness, research, teaching, government service, and works in international agricultural corporations.
