Ques: What does the B1.1 Stream cover?

The AME B1.1 Stream is a specialized program under the broader Aircraft Maintenance Engineering licence scheme. This stream often called Aeroplane Turbine / Jet-Engine Mechanical specifically focuses on the maintenance, repair, inspection, and certification of turbine-engine (jet-engine) aircraft. An engineer trained under B1.1 becomes competent to handle mechanical systems of large, jet-powered aircraft a core requirement for commercial airlines, cargo carriers, and defence aviation.

What B1.1 Child-Topics and Systems It Covers

Under the B1.1 Stream, students and licensed engineers learn and work on a wide range of aircraft systems and maintenance tasks, including:

  • Turbine engines (jet engines): Understanding their working principles, components, engine maintenance procedures, troubleshooting, overhaul, ground testing, and performance checks.

  • Airframe systems: This includes the aircraft's structural components and systems such as fuel systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, environmental control systems landing gear flight controls and other mechanical systems that ensure aircraft functionality and safety.

  • Mechanical and electrical fundamentals: Basics of materials, hardware (rivets, bolts, structural components), electronics and electrical fundamentals for systems that interact with mechanical parts useful because modern aircraft have integrated electrical controls even for mechanical systems.

  • Safety, maintenance practices & regulatory compliance: Training also covers aviation laws/regulations (as per Directorate General of Civil Aviation DGCA) human factor considerations (teamwork fatigue management safety culture), maintenance standards and certifying aircraft as airworthy after maintenance
