Ques: What are the eligibility requirements to join AME B1.1?

Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (AME) B1.1 Stream is a specialised aviation training programme focusing on maintenance repair and certification of turbine-engine (jet) aircraft. It covers airframe systems, fuel, hydraulics, pneumatics engine mechanics and prepares students for a licence under Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) enabling them to work on commercial and defence jets.

Eligibility Requirements to Join AME B1.1

To get admitted into AME B1.1 stream, candidates must satisfy the following criteria.

  • Educational Qualification: Candidate should have passed 12th grade (10+2) with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) from a recognised board. Alternatively, a 3-year engineering diploma (any stream) from a recognised college/university is acceptable.

  • Minimum Marks: Often institutes expect at least 45% marks in qualifying exam (12th or diploma).

  • Age Limit: Candidate should be at least 16 years old, and many institutes consider upper limit around 28 years at time of admission.

  • Medical Fitness: Candidate must be medically fit good eyesight (no colour blindness) proper hearing, and absence of physical disabilities that could hinder maintenance tasks.

  • Entrance Exam Requirement: Admission is often through a national level entrance test AME CET and seat allocation depends on rank achieved in this exam.

Why These Criteria Matter

These eligibility rules ensure that students entering AME B1.1 have a strong foundation in core science subjects (PCM), which is vital to understand complex aircraft systems, aerodynamics and turbine engines. The medical fitness requirement ensures safety and reliability in maintenance work, where good vision and physical fitness are important. The entrance exam helps evaluate aptitude for technical and theoretical demands of the course.
