B.Sc. in Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) is an undergraduate course for students interested in the diagnostic laboratory sciences. Candidates, to be eligible for the program, should have their 10+2 education from a recognized board and should have had PCB subjects. PCM background is also accepted at some institutions. Minimum aggregate marks required normally vary between 45 and 50 percent. In fact, a few institutions with an excellent reputation might demand even higher percentages. Some universities also conduct entrance exams for entry while others offer merit-based entry.
Excluding the academic qualification, a candidate must have good analytical skills, attention to detail, as well as an interest in medical sciences. Some institutes may have age criteria, generally requiring the student to be at least 17 years of age at the time of admission. Some universities may also require students to qualify in a medical fitness test before admissions. Given the nature of the course that deals with laboratory procedures, diagnostic techniques, and clinical tests, it is essential to have a good basis in science subjects. By meeting the above eligibility criteria, students are qualified to join medical diagnostics, hospitals, research labs, and other healthcare facilities as a profession.
