The AME B1.2 Stream is a specialization under AME that trains you to work on piston-engine powered aircraft typically light aircraft training planes private aeroplanes and small commercial planes. The course combines deep theoretical study (on piston engines aircraft systems safety regulations, aerodynamics etc.) with hands on practical training under real aircraft and approved maintenance environments. On successful completion and meeting all regulatory requirements you earn a DGCA recognized license in category B1.2, qualifying you to inspect maintain troubleshoot repair and certify piston engine aeroplanes.
Once you hold a B1.2 license you can find employment in many areas of the aviation industry: small airlines flying clubs pilot training organisations Maintenance Repair Overhaul (MRO) companies light aircraft manufacturers private operators and even government/defence aviation wings. This gives you flexibility you're not limited to a single kind of employer or kind of aircraft.
As a beginner (freshly licensed), you might start as a Line Maintenance Engineer or Engine Technician (Piston) handling routine checks, minor repairs and maintenance tasks. With more experience say after 5+ years you can move up to senior roles such as Base Maintenance Engineer Maintenance Planner Quality Assurance Inspector or even "Maintenance Manager / Engineer-in-Charge" in MROs or maintenance wings of airlines.
According to standard industry data fresh AME B1.2 licensees in India may begin with roughly INR5 - 8 lakh per annum. With experience and seniority this can rise to INR10 - 15 lakh per annum in domestic MROs or airlines. There's also scope for international opportunities many countries recognise DGCA equivalent licenses for piston-engine aircraft. Working abroad or for global operators can bring even higher earning potential.
Because the B1.2 licence is approved by the national aviation authority (DGCA) and similar maintenance-license standards are used internationally there is potential for overseas employment especially in countries or regions where light aircraft, private planes and general aviation are common. This opens doors to international MROs private operators flying clubs abroad and global aviation maintenance firms.
Global aviation especially general aviation, private jets, flight training, regional connectivity continues to grow. Demand for certified maintenance engineers remains strong. As more aircraft join fleets (both in India and worldwide) and as safety regulation enforcement increases licensed AMEs with B1.2 credentials will remain essential. This makes it a stable long-term career path with consistent demand
