The BMLT is an undergraduate program usually taken for 3 years with 6 semesters. Every semester is around six months, and the curriculum includes pathology, microbiology, biochemistry, and hematology. Some institutions may extend the program to 4 years with 8 semesters, which includes an internship or additional practical training. The course is designed to equip students with in-depth knowledge of diagnostic procedures, laboratory management, and medical research techniques.
Every semester includes theoretical as well as practical study of laboratory science. It begins with fundamental subjects such as human anatomy and physiology, leading to more complex topics such as clinical biochemistry and molecular diagnostics. The last semesters concentrate on research and project work as well as training in hospitals or diagnostic labs. Graduates from the program are well-prepared for careers in hospitals, research centers, and healthcare facilities as medical lab technologists, or further studies such as MMLT or specialized diplomas.
