Ques: How long does the AME course take ?

The duration of the AME course in India depends a bit on the institute and training mode you choose. In most recognized AME programs, you will study for about 2 to 4 years. Many institutes follow a 3-year structure split into six semesters. During this time you'll cover both theory and practical training learning about aircraft systems engines avionics safety standards and more. In some cases after theoretical education you also need hands on maintenance experience under supervision. That extra practical work can extend the overall process which is why the full path often falls under the 2-4 year range.

What's good about this duration

  • The 2-4 year span gives you enough time to thoroughly learn both theory and hands-on maintenance skills.

  • A 3-year structure balances classroom study and practical experience. This helps you become a confident and qualified Aircraft Maintenance Engineer.

  • The practical training often in real MRO (Maintenance Repair and Overhaul) setting gives valuable real-world exposure which helps when you look for a job or certification.

What to keep in mind

  • The exact duration may vary some institutes finish in around 2 years others take 3 or more depending on practical training and license requirements.

  • You may need to put in extra years if your license requires supervised maintenance experience or module exams after training.

  • Because of practical training and licensing exams (for example from DGCA Directorate General of Civil Aviation) the full process can take a bit longer than just classroom time.

The Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) course usually spans 2 to 4 years most commonly 3 years combining classroom learning and practical training. This duration gives you enough time to build solid skills and also meet licensing standards so you can safely work on aircraft.
