The B.Tech degree generally lasts for four years, divided into eight semesters. The total duration of one semester typically takes up six months, comprised of coursework, lab sessions, and projects. Core engineering subjects are generally in the first two years, specialisation-oriented subjects and electives in the final semesters. Students in the final year of most curricula are usually engaged in some type of internship, research or industrial training in industry.
The lateral entry students who join after a diploma will complete the course in three years. Part-time or distance learning B.Tech programs may take five years or more, as is required by institutions. Integrated dual-degree programs such as B.Tech + M.Tech, offered by some universities, can take five years to complete. Fast-track or honors programs allow students to complete the degree in less time. Academic performance, backlogs, or university policies can also affect the overall duration of completing a course.
