Ques: Do I need to clear any entrance exams to practice law after MA LLB?

Clearing the All India Bar Examination (AIVE) is a prerequisite for practicing law in India after earning your MA LLB. The AIBE is administered by the Bar Council of India (BCI). The AIBE is a qualification examination which certifies legal practitioners by providing a CoP. This certification is essential to contest as an advocate in Indian courts. It is a legal and ethics examination in an open book format held biannually.

Certain other regions may have further stipulations, which are beyond the AIBE. If you intend on focusing on additional subjects, then Judicial Services Exams and CLAT PG along with some other examinations may be applicable. Furthermore, practicing in foreign jurisdiction entails going through a series of their own exams, so while abroad you may also have to practice clearing different hurdles. Keeping in mind educational qualifications, an MA LLB gives you a base, but for working in India, in addition to the AIBE, professional practice is required.
