Ques: Do I need to be medically fit to join AME B1.1?

If you wish to enroll in the Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (AME) B1.1 Stream, being medically fit is an essential eligibility condition. The course demands good eyesight (corrective lenses are allowed) proper hearing and no serious physical disability or colour blindness.

Why medical fitness matters for AME B1.1

  • As an AME B1.1 engineer, you will work on turbine engine aircraft, handling mechanical systems engines fuel hydraulics and more.

  • These tasks often involve fine visual inspection careful identification of wiring or fluid lines (hence colour recognition matters), and physical work climbing bending working in hangars and sometimes under pressure or in challenging conditions.

  • You must be alert, physically capable and mentally fit so that you can safely operate tools, identify faults, and certify aircraft airworthiness a task where safety is critical.

What institutes check: Medical examination

Most institutions that offer AME B1.1 stream require a medical examination by a registered/MBBS doctor before admission.

During this check, your vision (6/6 or corrected) hearing general physical health and absence of disabling conditions (including severe colour-blindness) are verified.
