Most universities offering a Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program expect students to have a background in science subjects like Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (PCB) in high school. Some institutions might accept students from Physics, Chemistry, and Math (PCM) backgrounds, but Biology is generally preferred. Studying science especially Biology and Chemistry equips the students with knowledge vital for medical diagnostics, laboratory techniques, field store, and healthcare procedures. As biological science becomes more relevant to medical laboratory technology, students have to be equipped with prior knowledge on blood samples, tissues, and other medical specimens. Some institutions also consider entrance exams or merit-listed students which further endorse the necessity for a scientific background. If science isn’t your forte, then you might end up doing bridge courses or alternative diploma programs before you can get enrolled in BSc MLT.
