Ques: Are internships a mandatory part of the BCom IB curriculum?

Universities offering the B.Com IB (Bachelor of Commerce in International Business) often recommend internships to students, though it is often left at the discretion of the university and the country. For a number of institutions, including trade and finance focused internships into the curriculum is a necessity because of the reason that students need to operate in a globalized business world. These internships bridge the gap between classroom education and practical business engagements, thus aiding in the students’ employability and career professional readiness. There are universities which allow students to integrate internships into their courses as a subject for credit which they must complete by writing reports or projects based on their internship experiences.

For some universities, an internship is optional but is recommended. Students may complete case studies, capstone projects, or research papers of international business rather than do a mandatory internship. Such students who do choose to take this option gain an advantage over their peers by being able to enhance their employable skills through professional networking and hands on experience. Students should review their respective university’s program guide or meet with their academic coordinators or seek academic help to understand whether an internship is required.
