Ques: Are entrance exams required for MCA admissions?

MCA admissions in India require candidates to pass national/state/ university level entrance exams. The national level exam that is widely known is NIMCET which is conducted by all NITs. State recognized exams like MAH MCA CET, TANCET, and UPSEE are also accepted. Moreover, BHU, JNU, and DU also conduct their own entrance examinations for MCA admissions, which makes them one of the top universities in the country.

These entrance exams check a student's skillset of Mathematics, Logical Reasoning, Computer Awareness, and English. A Bachelor’s degree is generally the minimum requirement along with Mathematics in 10+2 or graduation. Many universities directly admit students who fall above the merit line especially from their own undergraduate programs. But, for most reputed institutions, an entrance exam grant them admission in order to assess students primary understanding of a computing concepts. Hence, students looking to pursue MCA from India’s premium institutes will have to spend ample time and effort on preparing for the exam.
