Entrance examination such as JEE Main and JEE Advanced for IITs or even state-level entrances such as MHT CET, WBJEE, and KCET are mainly the entrance norms required for BTech admission in India. Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics ensure students have satisfactory academic standards based on these examinations. Most state governments and premium private colleges usually allow admissions from these entrance tests to determine students' eligibility ranking and seat reservations based on counselling procedures. The strict admission criterion by institutes such as IITs, NITs, and IIITs makes the entrance exams unavoidable.
However, there are some private universities and deemed institutions that admit students directly on the basis of Class 12 board exam results or their own entrance tests. Universities like SRM, VIT, and Amity conduct their entrance exams but also offer merit-based admissions. Management quota seats in private colleges admit without entrance exams but usually at a higher fee. Thus, entrance exams are the main mode, but there are alternative routes of admission as well, giving a chance to those who are academically sound in different fields.
