MSc Mathematics students study advanced topics in different branches of mathematics. They major in ‘real analysis’, ‘complex analysis’, ‘abstract algebra’, and ‘linear algebra’ where they learn about different levels of structures and its application in mathematics. The student's understanding of continuity, space, and transformation are advanced by the study of topology, measure theory, and functional analysis.
Students are also trained on the practical aspects of mathematics. It encompasses methods in differential equations, mathematical modeling, and numerical analysis which put mathematics to real life issues. In most cases, modeling uncertainty and data interpreting is done through probability theory and statistics including many more in-depth topics. Also, some might specialize in number theory, combinatorics, or operations research depending on the program offered. The course ends with a research project or dissertation which makes the student focus on a particular area to contribute in a known embracing problem in mathematics.
