Vistara CEO Foresees Potential Merger with Air India Around Mid-2025

In New Delhi, Vistara is gearing up for its merger with Air India, expected to be finalized by mid-2025. The airline has initiated efforts to address the concerns of its over 6,000 employees regarding their future within the integrated full-service carrier.

On Monday, Vistara CEO Vinod Kannan stated that regulatory clearances for the merger are anticipated by mid-2024. However, the operational aspects of the merger hinge on Air India (referred to as Maharaja) experiencing an overall enhancement in its product. The entire process may extend until the middle of the next year to reach completion.

Vistara CEO, Vinod Kannan, has reassured employees that there will be no job losses during the merger with Air India. However, he acknowledged that responsibilities may undergo changes in the integrated entity. As the merger progresses, the current 67-aircraft-strong Vistara is set to expand its international routes from Mumbai with the addition of three final planes (one Boeing 787 and two Airbus 320s) in the coming months.

Kannan expects antitrust clearances from various countries, including Singapore, and approvals from NCLT, aviation ministry, DGCA, and the government for Singapore Airlines' investment in the next few months.
