IndiGo, India's largest airline, is welcoming a new batch of trainee Airbus A320 pilots. The airline needs many trained pilots for its growing fleet as it expands within India and internationally. IndiGo has a cadet pilot program in partnership with Skyborne Airline Academy, and they recently celebrated the graduation of over 75 trainee pilots. These pilots will operate IndiGo's Airbus A320 family of aircraft.
The program involves a 12-month commercial pilot training in the US, followed by converting the US license to an Indian one and getting an A320 type rating in Abu Dhabi. The selection process for the program is rigorous, including online assessments, coordination tests, personal interviews, and group discussions.
IndiGo is planning a massive fleet expansion, and they will need hundreds of trained pilots for this. They've placed a historic order for 500 Airbus A320 family aircraft, which will be delivered between 2030 and 2035. This adds to their existing orders of around 480 aircraft to be delivered in the coming years. The airline is making efforts to train new pilots to meet their growing needs.
