Indian Aviation Industry: Rapid Expansion Leads to Job Opportunities for Thousands

In a heartening turn of events, the aviation industry in India is soaring to new heights with rapid expansion, creating job opportunities for thousands of people across the country. After facing tough times during the pandemic, airlines, regulatory bodies, and airport operators are now on a hiring spree to meet the increasing demand for air travel.

Airlines on a hiring spree:

Airlines like Air India, Air India Express, and Akasa Air are at the forefront of this job creation wave. As Air India undergoes privatization, it has started restructuring its fleet and network. This means they need more pilots and cabin crew to support the expansion. The airline has been hiring around 600 cabin crew and pilots every month. Although finding experienced cockpit crew for widebody aircraft has been a challenge, they are temporarily hiring expat pilots until more local pilots can be trained.

Air India Express, the low-cost subsidiary of Air India, has also been actively recruiting flying crew to meet the demands of its operations. With plans to receive new boeing 737 MAX planes, they will need more pilots to fly these aircraft.

Joining the fray, Akasa Air is excitedly increasing its workforce and plans to hire nearly 1,000 additional staff members by March 2024. This growth could result in a total employee count of 3,000 by that time.

AMEs play a crucial role in the aviation industry as they are responsible for the maintenance, repair, and safety of aircraft. With the increasing number of aircraft orders and the need to maintain older aircraft, there is a growing requirement for more AMEs, resulting in recruitment drives for these professionals.

Aviation ministry looking for employees, too

It's not just the airlines that are expanding their workforce. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), responsible for regulating and monitoring the aviation sector, is also gearing up to meet the demands. The DGCA aims to hire 1,000 employees by the end of the decade to handle the growing fleet.

Air traffic controllers are also in high demand as new airports are being built across the country. The aviation ministry has created almost 800 new positions since 2021 to address this need.

The recent aircraft orders by Air India and indigo have added fuel to the employment engine. Industry experts predict significant job creation over the next decade. The CEO of Martin Consulting, with expertise in the aviation sector, explains that the jobs created will not only include those directly employed by the airlines, such as pilots and cabin crew, but also those indirectly supporting the aircraft, like airport staff and air traffic controllers.

In conclusion, the Indian aviation industry's remarkable resurgence is bringing a breath of fresh air to job seekers, offering them numerous opportunities across various aviation sectors. The growth in this sector is expected to continue, providing hope for a brighter future for thousands of aspiring aviation professionals in India.
