The multirole C295 aircraft is going to help the Indian Air Force (IAF) with its transportation tasks. It will carry soldiers and supplies to different parts of the country. The special thing about this aircraft is that it can take off and land on short runways and even on rough surfaces.
A big factory will be ready in Vadodara, Gujarat by November 2024. This factory will make the first Indian C295 military transport plane. These planes will start being made and sent out from 2026 onwards. This news was shared by important people from Airbus on Wednesday.
The place where the planes will be made in Vadodara, Gujarat, will be quite big, like the big factory in Spain where Airbus makes planes. This is the first time in India that planes are being made like this, especially in the private sector, as part of the 'Make in India' program.
Before this, only Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) used to make military planes in India. They were the only ones making them for a very long time.
India officially agreed to buy 56 Airbus C295 planes to replace the older Avro planes used by the Indian Air Force (IAF). This will cost around Rs 21,935 crore.
As part of this agreement, Airbus will provide the first 16 planes that are ready to fly from their factory in Seville. The other 40 planes will be built in India. Tata Advanced Systems (TASL) will make and put together these planes in a partnership with Airbus. This will happen in the Vadodara factory. At present, the only final assembly line for the C295 aircraft is located in Seville – it also produces the Airbus A400 aircraft.
The first C295 aircraft to be delivered to India in September had its first maiden flight in May, while the second aircraft is being put together here to be delivered to the IAF in May next year, followed by scheduled deliveries of one aircraft by Airbus every month until 2025.
