The upcoming airbus A350-900 aircraft is part of Air India's substantial order for 250 Airbus aircraft, which includes 140 A320neo, 70 A321neo, 6 A350-900, and 34 A350-1000 models.
Air India is on the verge of receiving its initial Airbus A350-900 aircraft. The new aircraft, intended for the Tata-owned airline, embarked on its maiden flight from Southern France to reach India. Taking off from Toulouse on August 4th, the aircraft completed a 2-hour and 52-minute flight over the Bay of Biscay, La Rochelle, and Bordeaux before returning to Toulouse, as reported by Simple Flying. However, the aircraft registered as F-WZFZ is yet to feature Air India's distinctive livery.
Originally designated for delivery to Aeroflot, the Airbus aircraft was redirected to Air India due to ongoing sanctions. This new addition is part of Air India's extensive order of 250 Airbus aircraft, which notably includes 140 A320neo, 70 A321neo, 6 A350-900, and 34 A350-1000 models.
According to AeroTime, Air India anticipates having six brand-new A350-900 aircraft in operation by the year's end. However, since these aircraft were initially intended for Aeroflot, they will retain the Russian carrier's interior. Customization will be necessary, taking some time.
Considering the aircraft's retained Russian interior, the configuration will consist of 28 business class seats, 24 premium economy seats, and the remaining 264 economy class seats. Air India's rationale for preserving the Russian interior primarily stems from scheduling constraints and the carrier's ambition to expedite aircraft deployment to align with its ambitious growth objectives.
