Bhubaneswar, October 5, 2024 – In a significant boost to Odisha’s infrastructure and aviation sector, Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu has announced that Bhubaneswar's Biju Patnaik International Airport will soon increase its capacity to handle 8 million passengers annually. The expansion comes as part of the government’s broader efforts to meet the growing demand for air travel and enhance connectivity in the region.

The capacity upgrade is expected to create numerous job opportunities across various sectors, including airlines, airport management, and ground staff services. As the airport gears up for increased traffic, airlines will require additional flight personnel, while the expansion will also necessitate an increase in ground staff for efficient handling of operations such as baggage, security, and passenger assistance.

Airport management officials are also preparing for the increased volume of passengers by recruiting more professionals to ensure smooth day-to-day operations. The expansion project will thus not only improve connectivity but also generate employment, offering jobs in areas ranging from customer service to logistics.

Minister Naidu emphasized that the airport’s growth is in line with the government’s vision of transforming India’s aviation hubs to meet international standards. “The expansion of Bhubaneswar airport will not only boost regional connectivity but also open up a wide range of job opportunities in the aviation sector, particularly in roles like airport management, ground staff, and airline services,” he said.

The development is a major milestone for Odisha, further strengthening its position as a key player in India’s aviation landscape.

With the expansion, Bhubaneswar Airport is also set to attract more domestic and international airlines, further increasing the demand for skilled labor in the region. The influx of new carriers will require enhanced airport management capabilities, including air traffic control, maintenance, and operational support. This will lead to the creation of specialized jobs in aviation safety, aircraft servicing, and customer handling. Local businesses are also expected to benefit, with the airport’s development boosting tourism and trade, creating a ripple effect of employment opportunities in hospitality, retail, and logistics sectors tied to the airport's operations.
